Invite us

Two ways to begin. A shared starting point.

Invite us for a literature session or a separate creative writing / performance workshop. We shape the focus around your institution and participants.

01 / Literature session

Literature, live.

Live slam, shared interpretation and conversation about contemporary poetry. Through texts, we explore poetic devices, verse forms and rhyme schemes, and consider what performance adds to the written word.

The focus is on encountering literature and thinking together. We discuss links to your curriculum or institutional theme beforehand.

02 / Creative writing / performance workshop

From your own text to a live voice.

We work with participants’ ideas, writing and voices. A workshop can focus on creative writing, editing, performance techniques or how these connect.

Alongside individual work, collaborative writing and team slam can be possible directions. We choose the focus around the group’s needs.

Why slam?

01

Contemporary literature.

Live texts connect slam with imagery, verse forms and rhyme schemes. The boundaries between genres can also start a conversation.

02

Writing and editing.

In a workshop, we work with participants from ideas to shaping texts. Individual perspectives, collaborative writing and team slam can all have a place.

03

Voice and presence.

We explore how emphasis, pace and pauses shape meaning. Trying a text aloud also gives feedback on the writing.

04

Your own perspective.

We make space for articulating thoughts and listening to others. Self-awareness and critical thinking connect to texts and shared discussion.

How we work together

Writing and performance shape each other.

Live slam, shared interpretation, conversation and writing: we balance these around the selected programme. Participants can explore verse forms, rhyme schemes and performance techniques. Workshops can focus on original texts and trying them aloud; literature sessions foreground literary connections and shared discussion.

What do I think?

Why do I think that?

How do I say it?

Slam makes room for these questions too. Alongside literature, we explore self-awareness, self-expression and critical thinking.

Who can invite us?

Literature belongs in many places.

Schools

A literature session connecting contemporary poetry, poetic devices and communication; or a workshop focused on writing and performance. We discuss curriculum connections with the teacher.

Libraries

A meeting of reading, personal stories and live voices. We look for connections with your library’s audience, literary programme or chosen theme.

Cultural institutions

Our programmes are also for community arts centres and other cultural and community spaces. Local stories, shared questions and different perspectives can be starting points.

Before you invite us

We work out the details together.

How long is a session, and who is it for?

We discuss duration, age group and group size around the selected programme. Tell us who you want to reach and how much time you have.

Do participants need experience or their own writing?

Let us know whether the group is new to slam or already has texts to work with. This helps us discuss the programme and any preparation.

Does everyone have to perform?

We agree how people take part beforehand. Listening, shared interpretation and working on texts matter too; we discuss individual speaking with the group.

What venue, equipment and budget are needed?

Tell us your town, venue and proposed date. Equipment, the facilitator and costs are discussed for each enquiry.

Start with an email

Let’s find a shared voice.
